Both 5D2 and 5D3 were shooting the same scene with same brand lens. Small differences in star sharpness are due to variation in lenses and focus rather than cameras.
Overall, I'd have to concur with the other people saying 5D3 is around 2/3 of a stop better (RAW). Also, quality of noise is better with less red in the colour noise.

There certainly isn't the difference I was expecting to see when the MK III was first released.
I have been playing with my hired 5D MK III tonight, doing exposures mainly between 30s and 120s. I'm still getting used to the camera. The results haven't been breath taking but undoubtably are an improvement over my 7D. The decision is not leaping out at me at this stage, have some more work to do I think.
