You don't say what the kit lens is but I'd guess that a good step up would be the 15-85mm. I certainly hope so because I have one on the way. It's replacing my 17-85 which has developed a fault. I found it a very useful walk around lens. It covers from wide-ish landscape moderate telephoto. I think a 24-105 is too long (assuming a crop sensor) for that role. I certainly take a lot of shots at <20mm. (Then get the 70-200 L and 1.4x)
