Sounds like you are using the older Canon camera control version.
There is a newer version of the camera control software that runs the newer Canon and Nikon cameras, came out from Version 3.75 from memory.
If you want to run the 350D you need the older version and the 40D you need the newer version, something to do with the SDK's being different I believe.
