Maybe one could gather some data of an object, measure a pixel value of a single sub exposure, then after stacking n exposures, measure the same pixel to see what its value is. Does its value increase n times? keep all the data luminance or B&W. Maybe try this with the summing method and with the averaging method and see if there is a magnitude increase of n for the summed data? I would try this myself but im not set up yet, as soon as i am, i will give it a go .
