Cheapskate SCT counterweight

Hey all,

A Meade 10" sct with a Crayford + powermate (x4) + d810 was tipping the scales of the imaging chain into the 2.5kg range, I needed something which would balance the camera and mirror of the SCT as it was way to back heavy.

I combed forums and the net for ages and the majority of people seemed to do do the following:
  • official meade rail and weights $300+
  • radius blocks + t slot (from a woodworking shop) + weightlifting weights $100+

It just seemed to much for what is essentially weights.

But then i happened to be visting decathlon and found these babies
https://decathlon.com.au/products/152952#

$15 bucks (you get a pair of them), strapped on with spare velcro. Currently have a 1kg and 0.75kg one velcroed and it balances perfectly.

And problem solved.

Cheers.
