Cool Old Observation Report

In my thread Observation report for the 30/09/10 http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...t=66464&page=2
Suzy in reply to a post by RobF suggested that we dig out some of our observation reports from the past.

I haver decided to get the ball rolling by posting a page out of my old daggy Log Book of my observations of the Shoemaker Levy 9 comet impact strike on the planet Jupiter.
Telescope was my Celestron Ultima 8" SCT.
I did not have the observatory then only a pillar in the ground with a fixed wedge so all I had to do was take the scope outside and plonk it on the mount.

I subsequently did 20 sketches of the impacts in a period 17/07/94 -25/08/94
They are no work of
art but they are real impressions of what I saw

The one I have chosen is my favourite as it sketched close to the time the image of the same impact was taken by HST
Guess which is Hubble
the picture is taken from the book by Carl Sagan " A PALE BLUE DOT" One of my very favourite books of all time
I hope we can get some more "Blasts from the past"
I also hope you enjoy my meager efforts of a very special moment in Astronomical History
Cheers
