-97 is the major member of this Hickson group of egs. It is a very LSB and quite faint skinny slash of gossamer in PA 90, about 1.75' x 10" grows hardly at all to centre but at dead centre is a very faint stellaring. To its SSE 3.5' are two tiny almost stellar spots of haze and at the 1/2 way point between these two eg and -97 is a mag 15 *.

-45 and -44 are almost *ar but have = or better SB than -97, though they are very, very small. 10" diameter each growing slightly to the centre without zones, core or nucleus.

-01 is fairly easy to see as a small, mod elong eg 1' x 15" in about PA 120. Very, very faint and LSB outer halo growing weakly to centre with a very small weakly brighter zone at centre. MCG +4-27-50 is 10' NE.

MCG +4-27-50 is a tiny, 10" diameter spot of very LSB gossamer with no central brightening. Very faint.

-74 and -74A are moderately faint egs as 2.5 deg NW of Omega Centauri. Faint, LSB elong merged halo in PA 30, 1.75' x 30"with double condensation - the southern one is the brighter and larger one. Brightens broadly and mod to the elong southern one which has a spot core, broadly and weakly in the northern one with no real core. Reasonable, lowish SB. ESO 269-57 is SW by 40'. Mag 11 * at the N tip.

-57 is a fascinating, LSB round eg almost 3' diameter and round. It has a series of 6 faint stars hemming it in all round mags 13-16 that mark the outer edge of the round halo. Very LSB outer halo that appears to have a weakly brighter rim as marked by the *s and a small, slightly brighter core zone. -60 is 15' NE

-60 is a very small, 30" diameter patch of mist with weak edges and rises slightly to centre no zones or nucleus.

Note R.V. Tis is a very tiny eg that could easily be mistaken for a *, or may have a very faint (mag 15) * superimposed a fraction off-centre to the N. Is found a little S of the mid-point between 2 mag 11.5 *s aligned N-S and sep by 8'. Tiny 20-30" diameter patch of mist -- difficult to gauge the way it brightens to centre because of the *.

IC 991 is a pretty easy to see eg that has a small troupe of faint stars immediately to its southwest. Good size, reasonable S.B about 1' diameter and round, or off round perhaps in PA 90 growing broadly and slightly to centre no apparent zones, core or nucleus.

This is a fairly small eg with reasonably good SB in the centre. Elong 40" x 10" in PA 120. W by 9' from a 9th mag *. LSB outer halo with weak edges, grows broadly and slightly to centre where there is a small mod brighter slightly elong core zone.

-97 appears to the SW of a small distinctive I tri of mag 12 & 13 *s. Small slightly elong form 50" x 20" in about PA 30. Good, pretty much consistent SB grows weakly to centre without zones or apparent nucleus. 10' W is IC 4401.

-01 is elong in PA 30, small and LSB about 50 x 15" growing slightly and broadly to centre but no core or nucleus. Lower SB than -997.

This is a small faint eg in a pretty dim field. No stars of significance near it. Pretty much immediately visible, weakly elong 30" dia off-round in PA 90 it brightens slightly to centre where there seems to be an occasional, very faint stellaring.

See note at NGC/IC:

NGC 5575 = NGC 5578. N5578 was found by Marth, and his position is close enough to clearly identify the galaxy. Swift's position, though, is about 14 seconds on to the east. There is nothing there that he could have mistaken for a nebula, though, and his declination and description fits NGC 5575. The identity is almost certain. - Dr. Harold G. Corwin, Jr.
