Comet Observations 1st, 2nd & 6th September 2011
C/2010 X1 Elenin
2011 Sep 01.36 UT; m1= 9.3; Dia= 4.5’; DC= 2; 25cm L, f:5 (x39)
Coma diffuse, elongated NW to SE @ x83, no tail, moonlight & zodiacal light affected, best seen using averted vision.
Comp Star= TYC 4951-618-1; Method= S; Cat= TJ

2011 Sep 02.36 UT; m1= 9.3; Dia= 3.5’; DC= 2; 25cm L, f:5 (x39)
Coma diffuse, slightly brighter in centre largely featureless. Enhances well in Swan Band filter, appears elongated WNW to SSE, moonlight and zodiacal light affected.
Comp Star= TYC 4951-618-1; Method= S; Cat= TJ

C/2009 P1 Garradd
2011 Sep 02.37 UT; m1= 7.9; Dia= 5’; DC= 5/6; 25cm L, f:5 (x39)
Tail to SSE, 15’ in length, background stars in coma, moonlight affected, central condensation not quite stellar but compact and diffuse. Tail visible using averted vision, outer coma enhances well with Swan band filter.
Comp Star= TYC 1608-447-1; Method= M; Cat= TJ

2011 Sep 06.37 UT; m1= 7.6; Dia= 4’; DC= 5; 25cm L, f:5 (x39)
Central condensation not stellar but small and compact, gradually fading of inner coma to edge, faint tail to SSE using averted vision.
Comp Star= TYC 1607-146-1; Method= M; Cat= TJ

C/2011 Q4 SWAN
2011 Sep 06.36 UT; m1= 10.7; Dia= 1.8’; DC= 2; 25cm L, f:5 (x83)
Coma diffuse, enhances well with Swan Band filter, no tail, moonlight affected observation, was observed directly but was much better using averted vision.
Comp Star= TYC 1608-447-1; Method= S; Cat= TJ

Q4 SWAN makes comet #72 (observed) for me!
Cheers!
