Viewed on 13th March with my 115mm ED refractor.
This is the first time that I had seen this double and I needed 130x to split them cleanly. (I only saw a figure '8' split at 81x).
The primary is white, whereas I found it hard to describe the colour of the secondary and settled on it being on 'off' white.
The brightness of the primary and the secondary are both similar to that of Iota Cancer and yet, on viewing, I thought that the difference in magnitudes were more. It shows that I must have a personal equation where I think the difference in magnitudes increases as the distance between doubles shrink.
When locating 38 Lynx, I also had a peep at Alpha Lynx. I was surprised with its strong, orange colour and on reading, have found it to be an interesting giant star. Its probably a handy star to have in your selection on Moonlit nights when DSOs can hardly be seen.
