I was able to attend Penrith Observatory this evening, and bagged an image of Nova Carinae 2018. LX90-10", f/5, Grasshopper Express 10 second image.

The nova appears a little less bright than HD92063 (the brightest star in the field) at mag 5.08, and brighter than TYC8613-02168-1 (just below the nova) at mag 9.39. Some coma is evident from the 0.5x focal reducer.

Also attached is the field from the Palomar Obs. Sky Survey (POSS). The nova's presumptive location is shown by the crosshairs.

Thanks to Ken Harrison (Merlin66) for the heads up on this lovely new star.

Regards,
Tony Barry
