I think it would be one of the best spiral galaxies to see spiral arms from less than perfect skies....maybe only M82 and perhaps M33 could top it
I can see an arm vaguely from my place in the outer suburbs with the 12". NGC 5078 is another interesting one, have observed this myself but can't recall seeing the dust lane. Visually it is a lot less imposing than on DSS plates-more so than the usual 'downgrades' going from DSS to vis! Have seen IC 879 companion though - very faint at about Mag 14p.
