D5500 - A Good low noise/high dynamic range choice.

Next you should download "Digicamcontrol" for tethered control of your camera from your PC/Laptop via USB cable. Your model, the D5500 is fully supported and the software is free. It is quite versatile - download it, start it, plug in your camera. It should recognise and confirm your camera model (bottom LH screen corner) immediately. Then have a play and learn. You can easily set up a sequence of shots at various apertures (if shooting via lens), various durations, various ISO. It supports bulb mode, which means greater than 30 second exposure lengths are possible (not possible on camera alone, without a seperate release/intervalometer type device )

Enjoy yourself!
