I have CCD and CMOS based caneras, and have to observe the fixed pattern noise in the CMOS to be downright annoying.
CCD’s are however far from dead. New EMCCD’s have close to 100% QE with ultra low read noise....unfortunately it’s the price that is keeping them out of amateur hands...for now at least
