Perhaps a bit too much information here for just a night's casual viewing. I find that even a half dead car battery that no longer holds up in a car, will suffice for an evenings viewing if charged up before and after. But the following is very good advice -
Try to avoid cigarette lighter sockets, you run the risk of cutting power just by bumping them.
Hard wire your stuff and use proper connectors with some kind of latching tang so they stay secure. Or Anderson style plugs. (thanks Pepper).
