Cheapie Tasco refractor focuser

I've been using a 60mm Tasco refractor as my guide scope for a while now. While I do generally get round stars, at least with shorter subs (5mins), getting longer subs (10mins) without elongated stars is the luck of the draw. I think the issue is flexure based on DSS compute offset function. I would put my money on the wobbly focuser being the problem. It doesn't have a locking screw. Is there any way I could stiffen it up or am I wasting my time?
