The rumors were all correct. Nikon have announced the D200 will be available in late December for US$1699.95

Another feature it has that may be useful for astrophoto's is mirror lock-up.
Nikon also announced a new lens, 18 - 200 mm IF-ED AFS-VR f/3.5 - 5.6G, I wouldn't buy one of these for astrophography, but it looks interesting.
