I've played with using my DBK31 (color) for deep sky shots... did a few subs of M20, and a few of M8 through my 8" F/6, The field of view was pretty narrow, but it can be done.
Theres a great thread on the forums all about this.. I'll find it and post a link..
I used the standard software to capture the images.
They actually came out pretty good considering.. There are some people taking amazing photos with the DMK's + color filters..
