Hi Duncan,

I bought my son a 1000D with the twin lens kit you mention for about $1K last year and while the remote control via laptop is good and the lenses are quite OK, it doesnt seem to have much sensitivity to low light on long exposures, enough, but I dont think its on par with the CCD DSLR's. I am pretty sure it has a CMOS sensor and therefore suffers a bit, even at high ISO speeds.

I really havent used it too much for LE work but as a DSLR its quite good for the money. You may want to try a Pentax K series or any other with a CCD chip rather than a CMOS one. Someone will probably point out how wrong I might be here, but I am just explaining my experiences with it.

I hope this helps (or detracts, as the case may be)

Cheers

Chris
