Changing off topic slightly from Col's humourous pic, a thumbsup for one Ikea product.
They have a damascus steel range of chef knives - paring, Santoku, small chef and large chef. All with damascus nickle-steel blades and VERY high quality wood handles (looks like either a type of walnut or very dense copper beech). I was tossing up whether to get the santoku (though have an exceptionally good one) or the small chef knife, and ended up with the small chef.
Tiger stripe / fiddle back wood, and the blade is DEFINITELY dangerously sharp - having worked as a chef for a few years, I can tell you this is sharper than ANY Wustoff - Trident or Victorianox knife I ever owned (still own). Absolute delight to use, and not even a hint of edge blunt yet (haven't needed to steel it even once - damascus holds edges well).
A little expensive at $50, but cheaper than the German/Swiss equivalents, and definitely cheaper than custom Japanese knives!
