Barry mate I have just bought the MT-24EX as well and for the purpose of using this Marco Flash Unit I had to puchase the Adapter 72.
Now as far as I am concerned this only applies to the Canon 180mm F/3.5,
but maybe it might help you.
According to all the other Macro Lenses that Canon produce, the 180mm one is the only one that requires this adapter
