Definately necessary. I'm powering my PCMCIA with a 1.66A adapter (I think
) and that runs it ok, but I can still have connection problems at times. The hub works a treat everytime (now that I have sorted out the dodgy cables from the good ones. You would be surprised how many firewire cables just didn't want to do the job. )
