Part 3 ...

NGC 7230 Galaxy *
RA: 22h 14m 13.0s Dec: -17° 04' 24"
Mag: 14.5 S.B.: --- B-V: --- Size: 0.9'x0.9' Class: SA(s)bc
P.A.: --- Inclination: --- R.V.: --- Source: PGC *

By comparison with some of the others viewed tonight, this one is positively sparkling. Only mod faint, about 50" diameter, round quite good SB growing broadly and mod to the centre without zones without nucleus. It lies on the hypotenuse of an almost RA tri with = br mag 13 *s 5, 7 & 8 arc-mins a side.

NGC 298 Galaxy *
RA: 00h 55m 02.2s Dec: -07° 19' 57"

NGC 293 Galaxy *
RA: 00h 54m 15.9s Dec: -07° 14' 06"
Mag: 14.7 S.B.: --- B-V: --- Size: 1.1'x0.8' Class: (R')SB(rs)b
P.A.: 10 Inclination: --- R.V.: --- Source: RC3 *

This eg is about 10' E of a mag 5 * which is very distracting and should be placed outside the field-stop. Pretty small and slightly elong, about 40" x 30" oval growing broadly and slightly to the centre without zones or nucleus. In PA 200 about 1' away is a stellar "spot no more than a few arc-seconds dia -- this is NGC 297 and seems about mag 15.5 - 16. Difficult. 12 - 14' NW is NGC 293 which is a lower SB eg than -98 and in PA 0, 30" x 10" a little more diffuse growing weakly to the centre without nucleus.

This eg is found to the S of a mag 11.5 * by about 3 and a bit arc-mins, 1.25' diameter, round patch of haze of goodish SB, weak edges growing broadly and slightly to the centre at there is a small stellaring. Maybe slightly elong in PA 0

This is a large group of faint to very faint small egs all within about 15' of the 7th mag * SAO 129088. Most of are a similar description -- very small and very very faint and about 20" dia spots of gossamer.

NGC 345 is SW of the * by 6' and is one of the brighter, slightly elong oval about 30" diameter with a slight central brightening. Further out in the same direction is MCG -1-3-59, about 15' from the * which is only about 15" diameter and extremely faint.

NGC 340 is 15' to the WSW of the * and is no more than 15" diameter spot with a slight central brightening. NGC 342 is 10 directly W of the * and is similar in appearance to 340.

NGC 347 is due N of the * by 5' and is a tiny spot about 15" diameter of consistent extremely low SB. Similar in appearance is MAC 0101-0643 that is a couple of arc-mins away NE of it.

NGC 349 is probably the brightest in the group, due E of the * by 5'. The star makes it difficult to see well but it seems about 40" diameter and rises mod to centre . NGC 350 is immediately adjacent to its E as a smaller fainter spot about 15" diameter.

25' SE of the * is NGC 356 which is about 30-40" diameter with a weak broad central brightening.

448 is in a pretty barren field. This is a pretty small but reasonable SB eg that is elong in PA 120, a fat lens shaped 50" x 20" growing mod and broadly to the axis nr centre but there are no zones or apparent nucleus.22' to the SW is MCG +0-4-47 which is slightly smaller and fainter and of lower SB in PA 45, about 30" x 15" as an oval.

This is a fairly bright spiral eg with a 1.5' dia round halo of consistent SB but containing a small, 10" dia sharp concentration at centre. there are 5 mags 13-15 * in a N-S running line to the W of the eg. NGC 533 is to the E by about 12' is 533. 533 is a pretty bright small, slightly elong eg in PA 45, about 1.25' diameter growing evenly and slightly to centre where there iss a small stellaring. IC 1694 is 6' S of -21. It is a tiny 20" dia spot of faint gossamer brightening slightly to centre.

It was a top night!

Best,
