if it were only for astro, the 40d hands down. If for both, i'd want a 5d but for the money a 40d is still a very close 2nd in my book. It comes down to whether you can justify the extra cost compared to the features.. Most people dont, and the lack of ef-s support forces you to bux more expensive lenses too.
