yes the scope is surprisingly heavy. I was hoping the CF tube would help on the weight front but with all the metal baffling The CF tube seems a bit of an extravagance. I have already tuned out the drag in the rotation axes of the HEQ5 making it a lot smoother to turn. I went with the longer focal length for prime focus DSLR imaging. Right really noob impetuosity.

As to the AP side of things, they're long focal length, which means you really need to have an accurate polar align, and accurate guiding on a suitable mount. I wouldn't personally recommend the HEQ5 for the CF8 - too much weight for imaging for that scope imho.
