Cheers Greg,
and I might just have to go that way, getting a Canon version with the micro USB plug. I'd like to explore the possibility of the mini to micro USB adaptor first obviously, as I already have a very good intervalometer.

What makes me wonder though is the fact I can trip the shutter "manually" by shorting the plug out, same as a switch within a remote (or intervalometer) would do. What I can't fathom is why the remote doesn't do this, neither of my cheap e bay versions do. Possibly I need to try them on a Canon camera as well, as it "could" be the remote, not my camera nor my cords. I did try a continuity test, while tripping the shutter switch on the remote, nothing. So the contact is not being made within the remote(s).
