Consider setting the camera to only output RAW files, it will save you some storage space, and its a little faster downloading to the laptop when using Backyard Nikon.. I was surprised the first time i opened my capture file and found all these big jpegs in there next to the RAWs. Also suggest selecting 14 bit images, default seems to be 12 bit.
DSS will certainly stack RAW files, and can produce an output file in Tiff or Fit format. Tiff is good if you want to process in Photoshop.
