I have always liked the f2.8 versions, regardless of what focal length, and or brand. But the one thing that sold me with this as well as the 17-40 L f4 was the costs, plain and simple. If you can afford it, then go for it. Why not buy both the f4 and the TV60 (or similar), as combined they can't be too far from the cost of the single f2.8 lens, surely.
I have been using my two on the ST2000XCM lately, and they give a good middle ground, wider field view.
