Cloud Free night was recently moved to https to increase security. In the process all data and XML feeds were also moved to SSL. We recently optimised a lot of the processes and gained a significant amount of speed in displaying maps and tiles. Give it a go. I'm sure you'll find a net improvement in usability and responsiveness, even more so on mobile platforms.
