Chris, you might need to clarify what you want this bracket for. You're saying L brackets but it sounds like you mean/want flash brackets. They could be different things. For example the RRS L bracket would not really be suitable to mount flash by itself. I agree RRS is beautiful gear.

You might also need to clarify what you want to shoot if it's a flash bracket. Portrait flash brackets aren't always the best for macro shooting.

For portrait you want the flash head above the lens in both portrait and landscape orientation of the camera. Eg flip type brackets.

For macro I like the flash head very close to the subject at the end of the lens. You don't get redeye with bugs so this isn't a problem. For humans you need the flash off the optical path to avoid redeye.

Btw I just received a cheap eBay flash bracket I want to test for macro. About $10. Looks good will be posting results over xmas break.
