Yes you can. I just did multiple 60 minute exposures on my Nikon D800E.
You get a cheap Ebay intervalometer with the Nikon 10 pin connector.
You simply set the intervalometer for the delay, the exposure length, the number of exposures and the interval between exposures.
As mentioned they cost about $20 and make a beeping sound whilst the camera is exposing.
I taped mine to the neck strap of the camera so its easy to find. They also have a little lighted dial which whilst hard to read in the dark is something.
