Baz,
I believe you can make a custom WB by simply taking a shot
of white card in pure sunlight.
A custom WB should transfer and work well with deep sky, maybe better
than a camera suggested default WB.
Having said all that, I've never done it myself.
It's been brought up a few times here on IIS.
Just type in custom white balance.
