If made by VEB Carl Zeiss Jena, they would have been built to perform and built to last. Producing collector's items would have been very low on the agenda of any state owned GDR facility, perhaps unless they were producing
specifically for Western markets. If the Telementor I own and the one we used in class back in the day (Astronomy was a school subject in its own right) are anything to go by, then these instruments will deliver to their theoretical limits in a nuke proof package.
