If budget is an issue (the Canon remotes are not cheap), there are 3rd party timer remotes on eBay that work extremely well. I've got the Aputure one, it has all the features of the Canon timer remote. Search around eBay for Aputure timer remotes, just make sure it has the N3 connector. I know there's a few others here that have the same one and it's great.
