Mt Tamborine - Arthur Page Telescope

Hi all,
This is to advise of a community project getting underway on Mt Tamborine, Qld.
Some of you will know of Arthur Page and his observatory that was located on the mountain from 1970 until 1994.
In 1966 Arthur was a founding member of the Astronomical Society of Australia (ASA), Australia’s national professional association, and was elected an Honorary Fellow of the Australian Institute of Physics. In 1985 Arthur was also the first non-professional to become a member of the IAU.
The project will be a community based, non profit project specialising in outreach astronomy with an emphasis on working with schools and children.
The plan is to use Arthur's original (refurbished) telescope in a new observatory similar to the original. This telescope has been donated to the project and requires substantial work to bring up to speed.
There will also be a planetarium and science centre.
This link outlines the plan.

This project is in the early stages at the moment and is concentrating on gaining relevant approvals and fundraising. A rough time frame is completion within two years.
There are various fundraising activities planned including sale of building blocks from the original observatory. These will be used in building the new observatory. If anyone feels inclined to donate any help is appreciated but that is not the intent of this post.
There are events and competitions planned with the local schools in conjunction with astronomical events, the next being the total lunar eclipse in July.
We have a web site: http://www.tmuniverse.com.au/
And a Facebook site: https://www.facebook.com/groups/TMUniverse/
As mentioned this is in the early stage and as part of the management committee I will let you know of any updates.
Many thanks for your interest.
Cheers Rob Sandow
