Yes on my old direct to battery setup, the exposed RCA touched my metal tripod leg and shorted the fuse. Ive heatshrinked all my plugs since and i think its good practice to do so.
It boggles me how RCA became the standard for dew heaters. It was never intended for electrical applications, its got an exposed conductor! While the circuit is fused, i will add a warning.
I try not to run all my electronics from the same power supply to avoid line EMI/RFI and keep the voltage stable. Although ive found most digital electronics these days are shielded and/or filtered quite well.
