The 450D is a replacement for the 400D which was a replacement for the 350D and so on..
The ranges are
300D, 350D, 400D, 450D
10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D
5D, 5D mark II
1D range
The 1000D is at a different price point and frankly I dont think it is worth not spending the extra 100 bucks to get a 450D. The 400D is superceded and second hand would be better value than a 1000D.
