That's odd!
I set the camera physically to M mode, set the ISO, and any other settings, then set the EOS Utility to Bulb. Next, I click the interval timer shooting button, set my exposure details and away I go.
Also, Dennis, unfortunately mirror lockup hasn't been implemented on the DIGIC III/IV via USB. Apparently it isn't possible.
Mike, yeah, if I could I'd stick entirely with the EOS Utility, but, I am pleased with the dithering capability that Nebulosity and PHD Guiding offers.
I read yesterday that someone had written a dithering utility which talks with EOS Utility. Might have to check it out.
