DSI Grey screen

Is it just me, of is the Meade DSI a pain to use?

I picked up one to use as a guide camera a while back and have now purchased a Stellarvue 60m finder to use as a guide scope.

The Stellarvue is great - light with good optics.

But the DSI is another thing altogether.

When plugged in, I get a gray screen with mush. After much fiddling about (including a few exposures), I can resolve some faint stars but I can't get the contrast right. Often there is so much static (wavy lines or just general electronic noise) that I can't make out anything on the screen. When I can, its a devil to focus.

The story is the same on the ED 80 and the LXD75.

As you'd expect, the manual ain't much use.

Have I picked up a dud, do I have unreasonable expectations or is it another case of pilot error?

Any pointers would be appreciated - especially a website that carries useful practical information.

Thanks

Pete
