Yes, a controller would be best. I didn't want to fork out more dosh. I already had a Thousand Oaks dedicated to my dob. And built a little one-channel unit myself to drive a band on the SCT corrector plate. I just checked the resistance/power consumption of the 3" strap then fiddled around with the various left-over powerbricks I had been collecting until I found something that would drive it moderately. Didn't butcher the strap cable - fitted an RCA socket to the powerbrick output cable.
