Not sure about the Nikon, I did moded my Canon 1100D and highly recommend... if you have other cam for daylight.
Full spectrum mod and 'squeezed' a thin copper foil between the sensor and PCB, jammed to the sensor with mica used for transistor insulation.
Then the copper foil bend-around and pressed against a two stage Peltier unit salvaged from an old Meade CCD .... can achieve -10deg, but can fog up. Heater for sensor's front later... too many other projects
