The 1-series have always come before the 5D series.
Some people are up in arms re: a drop in megapickles from 21 (1Ds Mark III) to 18. However, I think this is an awesome compromise considering the camera is able to take 12 frames per second in RAW. That is /insane/ amounts of data being pumped. It is what sports photographers, wedding photographers and photojournalists have wanted for a long time. There's really only 7% decrease in megapickles, which is nothing, really.
You will see that when the 5D Mark III comes out, it will be a resolution monster designed for landscape and studio work. I, for one, can't wait -- will be first in line to add to my weaponry. I'm guessing it'll be a 36 megapickle resmonster.
