If you are looking for an observing site near the Gold Coast I suggest Boyds Lane, Dulguigan. It has good horizons and no street lights. There is light pollution on the north side from Brisbane/Gold Coast and a bit on the south side from Murwillumbah. It is about 30 mins SW of Tweed Heads. You can pull off the road into the cane fields.
