Hi guys,
I'm quite interested in this 500D Dark Frame discussion, as my personal experience with my own 500D - is VERY POOR dark frame performance. Several reviews have quoted it as being better than previous generations including this one -

However I took a series of tests comparing dark frames at different ISO & exposure length combinations, and as you can see there's plenty of colour noise. Basically anything at 2 minutes or more @ 1600 ISO (or the equivalent exposure times at 800 & 400 ISO), are very bad. Follow the lines diagonaly below to see the equivalent exposures at the 3 x different ISO settings.
Time/ISO 1600 800 400
30 sec____x
1 min_____x___x
2 min_____x___x___x
4 min_____x___x___x
8 min_________x___x
16 min____________x
Test results are here -

My quesiton is - is it a batch variation with the sensors .. e.g. I have a bad camera, or is this typical.
It would be great if someone else could post some comparitive 500D examples.
Cheers
David
