I regularly print astro pics on to canvas but haven't yet had the opportunity to do acrylic face-mounted or aluminium other than acrylic photo blocks.

Canvas varies considerably between suppliers. Quality and texture of the canvas can make the result quite different. The canvas I have mine printed on is reasonably textured especially in comparison to canvas such as the cheap stuff Officeworks uses (may as well be paper its' so un-textured). Canvas has the advantage that it hides poor resolution due to the texture in the canvas. This can be very useful for astro pics where sometimes we struggle for resolution.

Acrylic and aluminium are usually glossy prints where any resolution issue or other blemish is much more visible. The glossy look with high saturation does work well for astro prints though, and acrylic photo blocks really work well as a result (they are also small which helps).
