Rob, the Sigma 17-70 does have macro and is very well reviewed. Sigma do make some good lenses. I bought mine after seeing comments by Terry (Cometguy)
in this thread; Mike (Iceman) has one as well. I am very pleased with both the build and optical quality and it's a big step up from the standard kit lenses.
