I would suspect the USB connection first (USB/serial hardware and the cables themselves, particularly any extension cables).
Also have a good look at the power connector on your EQ6 - the concentric connector on mine came slightly adrift from the board (the solder holding the socket failed). I replaced the connector system with a more substantial one and all intermittent drop-outs stopped.
