I bumped my dining table one night in the dark and heard something fall over, roll to the edge and hit the floor. My Nikon 105mm macro lens. My heart sank and I went pale. It's a horrible feeling. Luckily it was fine though (nice solid metal made in Japan quality). Still until then I was toying with the idea of buying lens coats for my good lenses...this incident made up my mind. I know a lens coat won't help for big falls, but can for everyday knocks (and makes metal lenses so much easier on the hands to work with in winter).
