Yeah, the whole warranty thing is a grey area. One of the Oz grey import websites I had a look at offered a local 12 month warranty (after explaining that their products were not warranted by Canon & Nikon in Australia) but you then jumped to a 3rd party website where you could purchase an additional warranty and I suspect in that case, no local $500 cash back.
Just for the record, I did notice that Canon had a US Canon cash back offer on the Adorama supplied goods too. Decisions, decisions!
