Well to my excitement the QSI 683wsg-8 arrived and I quickly placed the dmk51 as the guide cam and my verdict is that the dmk51 makes an absolutely useless and unreliable guide cam.

There is way too much noise for reliable guiding.

I had an old Meade DSI that I hadn't used in months and decided to give it a try and I have to say I was incredibly surprised how sensitive it was. I have had no trouble finding a guide star where ever I pointed the scope with only 1sec exposure using PHD.

So guys hold on to your old cams because you never know when they could be useful.....
