The SDKs will eventually be released. A lot of people are waiting for the FoCal automated lens microadjustment software to be available to use completely automatically with the 5D Mark III. At the moment, there's manual methods.
I'm not sure what the delay is, but, it's annoying that I can't upgrade to Mountain Lion as EOS Utility won't work. I did check out the 5D Mark III software page on the Canon USA web site the other day and it mentioned that the EOS Utility update will be ready in October. Not too long.
But, yeah, if you look at this from a non-astrophotographic/special purpose point of view, it's a great starter into the world of full frame goodness!
